14 Companies Identified as Internet Providers on Thai-Cambodian Border

Bangkok: Revealed recently, there are 14 companies providing internet services on the Thai-Cambodian border. NBTC has expressed readiness to support the government policy in case of Cambodia cutting off Thai internet, anticipating a decrease in technology crimes as a result.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Trirat Viriyasirikul, Deputy Secretary-General and Acting Secretary-General of the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC), stated that the NBTC is prepared to support the government’s initiative to address technology crimes potentially linked to the border. Should the Cambodian government opt to provide its own internet, telecommunications operators aiming to connect signals to Cambodia will need to furnish detailed business and service information for stricter NBTC inspections. This regulatory measure is expected to positively impact technology crime issues and reduce the incidence of call center scams.

Mr. Trirat disclosed receiving reports of internet signal disruptions in certain border areas caused by Cambodia. Presently, there are 14 telecommunications companies with networks and international connection points along the Thai-Cambodian border. These companies include National Telecom Public Company Limited, Advanced Wireless Network Company Limited, True Move H Universal Communication Company Limited, True Internet Corporation Company Limited, United Information Highway Company Limited, ALT Telecom Public Company Limited, International Gateway Company Limited, Jastel Network Company Limited, Symphony Communication Company Limited, T.C.C. Technology Company Limited, Interlink Telecom Public Company Limited, L.W.T.N. Company Limited, Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand, and Kurz Company Limited.

The Thai government’s policy on this matter is still awaited. Telecommunication operators authorized to use international networks, such as those renting high-speed international communication circuits for branches in Thailand and abroad, including International Private Leased Circuit (IPLC), can seek services from Cambodian providers. This includes sectors like commercial banking and Thai businesses operating in Cambodia.
