Meet the Brave New World of Luxandia, the Emerging Concept of the Metaverse to Its Next Evolution

The Luxury today announced that the development of its new venture, Luxandia is currently at 40%, with a full launch scheduled for late Spring 2022. Luxandia will be a global virtual reality space dedicated to the online luxury industry, presenting some of the world’s biggest luxury brands in retail areas, from automotive to watches.

Luxandia

LONDON, Sept. 02, 2021 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Luxandia offers a unique opportunity for luxury brands, who will be able to showcase their products and services. These can be sold using regular currency or the company’s own cryptocurrencies, The Luxury Coin (TLX) and the upcoming in-world Luxandia cryptocurrency Lusso (LSO). The project is unique in the virtual reality space and the first to bring the $224.8 billion luxury industry to the metaverse.

“Luxandia is going to be the leading luxury virtual space in the emerging metaverse. Our vision is of an immersive, interconnected virtual world of luxury. We are starting with virtual luxury malls where brands can rent retail space and consumers can enter that same space through their laptop, but that is only the beginning,” said Catalin Dascalu, CEO of The Luxury.

“As we continue to build out the world of Luxandia, we will also be enabling support for an app and virtual reality 3D glasses, allowing people to explore online stores just like they would in real life. The possibilities are endless, including an online 3D cinema where you can watch films surrounded by the atmosphere of a real cinema or a visit to an auction house to bid on NFT art. The only limit is the imagination – and the communities on Luxandia will be free to explore the possibilities that they can imagine.”

Until recently, the metaverse was a concept only dreamed about in sci-fi, most notably Neal Stephenson’s 1992 novel Snow Crash and Hollywood director Steven Spielberg’s 2018 movie Ready Player One. Today, however, that is all changing as virtual reality, augmented reality, 3D glasses, and other digital technologies make it increasingly possible to explore entire new spaces without ever leaving your home.

The metaverse can be considered as complete and explorable digital worlds, much like the MMORPG Second Life or the virtual world of Decentraland, a project run on the Ethereum blockchain. People can buy and sell property and goods in both worlds, living a rich ‘virtual life.’

Business is also moving in on what has traditionally been seen as gamers’ virtual reality space. Facebook launched the 3D glasses virtual reality Horizon Workrooms app to help remote workers collaborate in cyberspace conference spaces using personalized avatars.

For many big tech leaders like Zuckerberg, the metaverse isn’t a fantasy – it’s the future of the internet, with endless implementations such as allowing people to venture into space without leaving home, thanks to 3D, 360-degree space walk experiences. Medical professionals are also discovering that virtual reality can ease diagnostic tests and treatments for patients, with promising research into the positive impact virtual reality systems can bring to patients entering into the fearful tedium of an MRI scan.

For The Luxury CEO Catalin Dascalu, progress in creating the metaverse is all about collaboration and cooperation rather than ‘competitive rivalries.’ By working together, tech companies can create a metaverse that matches the ambitious vision of a new and unlimited virtual space for work and play for humanity.

“Luxandia will be open to integration with other, similar projects. We believe in the power of collaborative innovation, not competitors,” added Dascalu. “We look to projects like the Aura Blockchain Consortium and how a common purpose has pulled businesses together for progress, rather than getting lost in sometimes petty competitive rivalries. This is the way forward.”

Those interested in experiencing the latest evolution of the emerging metaverse can get an early taste for Luxandia, with a waiting list expected to open in ONE month, allowing 1,000 to become beta testers of the virtual world from December 1, 2021.

Luxandia marks another bold venture from The Luxury into the world of cryptocurrency and the blockchain. The project follows The Luxury Bank, which aims to make using cryptocurrency for everyday purchases as simple as using a credit card.

Orphalan announces FDA acceptance for filing of New Drug Application (NDA) for trientine tetrahydrochloride (TETA 4HCl) for the treatment of Wilson’s Disease

Orphalan announces FDA acceptance for filing of New Drug Application (NDA) for trientine tetrahydrochloride (TETA 4HCl) for the treatment of Wilson’s Disease

NDA supported by positive data from Phase 3 CHELATE clinical trial

TETA 4-HCl previously granted Orphan Drug Designation for first-line treatment of Wilson’s Disease

Paris, France – 2 September 2021 – Orphalan SA, a Company that identifies, develops and delivers worldwide therapies for orphan diseases, today announces that the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has accepted for review the Company’s New Drug Application (NDA) for trientine tetrahydrochloride (TETA 4HCl) for the first-line treatment of Wilson’s Disease.

Wilson’s Disease is a rare inherited disorder of copper transport primarily affecting the liver and brain, affecting about 1 in every 30,000 people worldwide. TETA 4HCl is proposed as an alternative copper chelating agent to d-Penicillamine, the only approved first-line treatment of Wilson’s Disease for the last 70 years, to which about a third of patients develop intolerance.

The Company’s NDA submission follows its previous Orphan Drug Designation by the FDA. The filing is based upon positive data from the CHELATE Phase 3 clinical trial that met its primary efficacy endpoint by demonstrating that TETA 4HCl was non-inferior to d-Penicillamine as measured by copper speciation evaluation of non-ceruloplasmin copper (NCC).

Treatment with TETA 4HCl is supported by Orphalan’s novel NCC assay, for which the Company plans to file for FDA approval as a companion diagnostic. The in vitro NCC assay has the potential to provide an important additional tool to support physicians in identifying patients and monitoring their treatment with TETA 4HCl.

Dr Naseem Amin, Chief Executive Officer at Orphalan, commented: The FDA’s acceptance of the NDA brings us one step closer to providing firstline treatment to patients with Wilson’s Disease, who currently do not benefit from alternative methods of treatment, beyond D-Penicillamine .

Notes to Editors

About the CHELATE Study

CHELATE was a Phase 3, multicentre, randomised, open label, active-controlled, non-inferiority study conducted in 9 countries at 15 centres designed to evaluate efficacy and safety of trientine tetrahydrochloride compared to d-Penicillamine in patients with stable Wilson’s Disease. Fifty-three adult Wilson’s Disease patients with clinically stable disease for over one year and who met specific inclusion criteria, including laboratory measures of serum non-ceruloplasmin copper (NCC), 24-hour urinary copper excretion (UCE) and liver function tests, were followed for a baseline period for 12 weeks before being randomised 1:1 to either trientine tetrahydrochloride or d-Penicillamine twice daily. The study’s primary endpoint was serum NCC as measured using Orphalan’s proprietary method using copper speciation at 24-weeks post-randomisation. A secondary composite efficacy endpoint was NCC and 24-hour UCE.

Additional secondary endpoints included were: clinical Global Impression of Change (CGIC) score; serum copper and ceruloplasmin levels; the unified Wilson’s Disease Rating Scale (UWDRS); modified Nazer score; cognitive assessments and standard safety assessments. In addition, an independent adjudication committee blinded to the allocated treatment, and study centres assessed key efficacy and safety parameters to determine clinical stability of the patient. Trientine tetrahydrochloride was well tolerated and during treatment, more patients achieved the pre-specified composite endpoint of NCC and 24-hour Urinary Copper Excretion (UCE) within therapeutic target ranges, compared to patients treated with d-Penicillamine, 50% versus 24%. Data from the trial was presented during an oral presentation at EASL’s The International Liver Congress™ 2021.

Thai PM defends government’s handling of pandemic 3rd day of censure debate

Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha defended his government’s performance in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic today (Thursday), the third day of the no confidence debate against him and five other ministers, claiming that cumulative infections and fatality rates in Thailand are much lower than those in many other countries.

He also explained the initial decision not to join COVAX was not a mistake and dismissed the Opposition’s allegation that the Centre for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA), which he is heading, has assumed a monopolistic position in the management of the pandemic.

After being bombarded with accusations by the Opposition over slow vaccine procurement, vaccine shortages and alleged corruption in the procurement of the Sinovac vaccine, the prime minister took to the floor to defend himself and his administration.

He said that, for the past twenty months, Thailand has performed fairly well in dealing with the latest wave of COVID-19, compared to the global average “but not as well as many people in the country expected.”

Around the world, he said, 217 million people have been infected, accounting for 2.8% of the global population and about 4.5 million people have died, accounting for 2.1% of the infected. In Thailand, however, the infection rate is 1.8% of the population and the death toll is 0.96% of the infected.

Based on infection per one million population, he said that, on August 30th there were 16,548 infections in Thailand, compared to the global average of 27,848 and many fewer than countries which have administered the Moderna vaccine to their populations, such as Israel, with 118,979 infections and the US’s 116,427 infections.

He said Thailand’s cumulative death toll, per one million of the population, is 155, compared 549 globally, 1,945 in the UK, 1,917 in the US and 791 in Israel.

“Thailand’s death rate from COVID-19 is comparatively very low, but we must make sure that there will be no more deaths. I have sympathy for everyone, but we have to look at the situations outside too. If we only look at the situation in the country and keep criticizing it, we won’t be able to do anything,” said the prime minister.

He also claimed that the decision not to join COVAX at the beginning was not a mistake, but a judgement based on the best interests of the country at the time, adding that being a member of the program has several strings attached, making it impossible for the government to set the procurement timeline for vaccines and forcing the government for a substantial amount of investment. Thailand has now decided to join COVAX, because there have been many changes to the regulations.

He warned the Opposition MPs that their denigrating of the Chinese-made Sinovac vaccine may harm the bilateral relationship, adding that more than 30 million doses of the Chinese product have been administered so far in Thailand, including to many MPs, and it has saved many people from death.

He claimed the high price of Sinovac, as pointed out by the opposition, was dictated by the seller, not the buyer.

Addressing accusations that the CCSA has monopolised the power to manage every aspect related to COVID-19, he insisted that the final say still rests with the cabinet, while insisting that the lockdown restrictions imposed by the CCSA are effective in containing the disease.

Moderna says tainted Covid vaccines sent to Japan contained steel

Washington (AFP) – Moderna said Wednesday that tainted batches of its Covid-19 vaccine sent to Japan were contaminated with stainless steel particles, but the company did not expect it posed “an undue risk to patient safety.”

The US biotech firm is facing major setbacks in Japan, with hundreds of thousands of doses suspended following reports of foreign substances detected in vials.

Authorities are also investigating the deaths of two men who received doses from a tainted batch, but the cause of their deaths is so far unknown.

In a joint statement with its Japanese partner Takeda, Moderna said the contamination in one of three suspended lots had been traced back to production line flaws at a factory run by its Spanish contractor, ROVI Pharma Industrial Services.

“The rare presence of stainless steel particles in the Moderna Covid-19 vaccine does not pose an undue risk to patient safety and it does not adversely affect the benefit/risk profile of the product,” the statement said.

Metallic particles of this size injected into a muscle may cause a site reaction, but are unlikely to go beyond that, it added.

“Stainless steel is routinely used in heart valves, joint replacements and metal sutures and staples. As such, it is not expected that injection of the particles identified in these lots in Japan would result in increased medical risk.”

Moderna added that for the time being, there was no evidence that the two deaths were related to administration of the vaccine and “the relationship is currently considered to be coincidental.” An investigation is ongoing.

Last week, Japan suspended 1.63 million Moderna doses across the country.

Around 46 percent of Japan’s population has been fully vaccinated, as the country battles a record surge of coronavirus cases driven by the more contagious Delta variant.

Some 16,000 people have died from Covid-19 in Japan, and large parts of the country are under strict virus restrictions.

Public Health defends ‘Mix & Match’ vaccination approach with Sinovac

Vaccination with the first dose being of the Sinovac inactivated virus vaccine, followed by the second dose using the AstraZeneca viral vector vaccine is the standard for vaccination for Thai people, said Public Health Permanent Secretary Dr. Kiattibhoom Vongrachit, as he defended the “mix and match” approach, its safety and its efficacy in the prevention of severe cases or deaths among the vaccinated.

Dr. Kiattibhoom also beseeched the Opposition to refrain from speaking negatively about the quality of the Chinese-made Sinovac vaccine in ways which could fuel public confusion or mistrust of the vaccine. Nevertheless, he then said that the Ministry of Public Health will procure more effective vaccines for the Thai people, which can cope with new variants of the virus.

Meanwhile, Medical Sciences Department Director-General Dr. Supakit Sirilak said that the mixed inoculation of Sinovac and AstraZeneca vaccines is as effective as two doses of AstraZeneca, but will allow for inoculation of twice as many people, due to the availability of the Sinovac vaccine.

Dr. Supakit also disclosed that 1.5 million people have already been given a combination of Sinovac and AstraZeneca and they are safe. In the next step, about 3 million people who are fully inoculated with two doses of Sinovac vaccine, will be given a booster shot using the AstraZeneca vaccine.

He noted, however, that the study of the “mix and match” approach, conducted by the Medical Sciences Department and the Faculty of Medicine Siriraj hospital, has not been published yet “under the present circumstances”.

Disease Control Department Dr. Opart Karnkawinpong also defended the “mix and match” vaccination formula, saying it has been approved by several Thai and foreign medical organizations as well as the National Communicable Disease Committee.

As the coronavirus is constantly mutating, while new vaccines are being developed to cope with them, he said that the existing vaccines have become less effective, but they can still protect against becoming seriously sick or dying from the disease.

On the third day of the censure debate In Parliament this morning (Thursday), Pheu Thai MP Jiraporn Sindhuprai asked why Thailand paid about 100 baht per dose more for the Chinese Sinovac product than Indonesia, India and the Philippines did.

She also expressed skepticism over why the Public Health Ministry sought cabinet approval for 5.5 billion baht, to procure Sinovac in several lots, when the actual prices paid should be about 1.6 billion baht lower, raising a suspicion of kickbacks being part of the procurement deal. She said that the Pheu Thai Party will be asking the National Anti-Corruption Commission to investigate the Sinovac vaccine deal.

Sinovac currently makes up the majority of vaccines Thailand has received, at about 25.5 million doses so far. 12 million more doses are being ordered amid criticism over the Chinese vaccine’s reportedly low efficacy.

PM denies opposition MP’s accusation he bribed a group of MPs in Parliament

Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha hit back at Pheu Thai MP Visarn Techateerawat, of Chiang Rai province, for accusing him of giving five million baht in cash each to a group of MPs in Parliament during the third day of the censure debate today (Thursday).

The prime minister said that the MPs came to see him to offer their moral support and that he would not be stupid enough to do something similar to the “snack bag” scandal over a decade ago.

That scandal took place in the offices of the Supreme Court’s Criminal Division for Holders of Political Office in 2008, when one of the team of lawyers, representing then prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra, gave a paper bag, containing what he claimed were cookies, to a court official. The bag was subsequently found to contain two million baht in 1,000 baht notes.

The bag was later returned to the lawyer who claimed he gave the wrong bag to the official.

Mr. Visarn caused a stir in parliament during the debate today, by accusing the prime minister of giving cash to a group of MPs in a room on the third floor of the parliament building, purportedly to entice them to vote for him at the end of the censure debate.

“This is outrageous! This corruption! Just because he (the prime minister) wants to stay on in his position, MPs are receiving five million baht each from him in his room. Is this possible in Thailand?” Visarn exploded.

The accusation prompted several Palang Pracharat MPs to protest and demand that House Speaker Chuan Leekpai order Visarn to withdraw the allegation. The Speaker, however, responded by saying that the prime minister would explain the matter later, because he was implicated.

Pheu Thai MP for Chiang Mai, Jullapan Amornvivat, asked the Speaker to instruct officials to secure the CCTV footage from the third floor immediately, claiming that he had heard that some will try to tamper with the system.

Palang Pracharat MP Veerakorn Kamprakob vouched for the prime minister, claiming that he was among the group of MPs visiting him and did not see any money being given by the prime minister to any of the legislators.
