Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt jogged from Lumpini Park to Lam Salee intersection today (Saturday), a distance of 14 kilometres, during which he paused to inspect the boat service on Saen Saeb Canal and traffic problems at Lamsalee, infamous for almost constant congestion.
Regarding the gridlock at Lamsalee intersection, the governor noted that construction of the Yellow and Orange train tracks in the area has further exacerbated the already bad traffic situation.
He said that one way to ease congestion there is to restore the road surface quickly, which is partially blocked by the construction, adding that he has been informed by the project contractors that construction is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
Thaiwut Khankaew, chief of the Department of Public Works, admitted that the construction of 15 major projects has been proceeding too slowly, adding that contractors have been told to speed up so roads can be fully reopened to traffic.
He also said that the department will urge contractors to improve pavements, install traffic lights and put all overhead cables underground along the routes of the railway projects at the same time.
