The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) is ready to start administering Pfizer vaccine to 12 to 18-year-olds who are among high risk groups in 437 schools operated BMA from September 21st, said Bangkok Governor Aswin Kwanmuang today (Tuesday).
Registration for vaccination, via QR Code, began on Monday and will close tomorrow.
The governor said that all the students with any of the seven specified underlying diseases must be assessed by their doctors and have a document describing their illness, which can be a doctor’s certificate.
With the recommendation of the Royal College of Pediatricians of Thailand, he said that city health officials have already collected information on students who are suffering from any of seven underlying diseases, in preparation for the vaccination program.
Obesity is one of those conditions and those considered to be obese are aged 12-13 who weigh 70kgs, aged 13-15 who weigh 80kgs or more and those aged 15-18 who weigh 90kgs or more.
The governor said that the obese youngsters eligible for vaccination must also experience breathing disorders while sleeping, due to airway obstruction.
The other underlying diseases are chronic respiratory disease, including asthma, heart disease, stroke, cerebrovascular disease, chronic kidney disease, cancer, immunocompromised, diabetes and other genetic diseases, such as Down syndrome, or have developmental issues.
A meeting of all parties concerned is scheduled for Thursday to make final preparations, which include an opinion survey of target students and their parents, vaccination facilities, post-vaccination monitoring and an educational campaign for students and parents about the vaccination and how to prepare for vaccination.
