Mr. Karom Phonphonklang, Deputy Spokesperson of the Prime Minister's Office, revealed that the Cabinet has approved in principle the draft Royal Decree for the selection of senators, B.E.... which has the essence of selecting senators in accordance with Section 107 of the Constitution of the Kingdom of Thailand. Because the term of the Senate has expired, Section 269 (4) of the Constitution of the Kingdom of Thailand provides that the term of the Senate under this section is 5 years from the date of the Royal Decree of appointment and the Royal Decree of the appointment of senators. On May 11, 2019, the term of the Senate has expired for 5 years and will expire on May 10, 2024, but will remain in office to continue performing duties until there are new senators. 'When the term of the Senate expires The selection of senators shall be carried out by enacting a Royal Decree in accordance with Section 107, paragraph five, of the Constitution of the Kingdom of Thailand. which provides for the selection of senators to be made by a Royal Decree and within 5 days from the date the Royal Decree comes into force. The Election Commission (EC) shall set the date for the commencement of the selection process not later than 30 days from the date the said Royal Decree comes into effect. And in order for the selection of senators (Senators) to be in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution of the Kingdom of Thailand, Section 107, paragraph five, and the Organic Act on the Acquisition of Senators, B.E. 2018, Section 21, a draft Royal Decree has been prepared. Mr. Karom said that for the draft of the Royal Decree to select Senators, B.E.....it has important matters to select Senators and to prepare a draft plan for organizing the selection of Senators within 5 days from the date the Royal Decree to select Senators comes into force. The Election Commission will set the date for starting the selection process to be no later than 30 days from the date the Royal Decree comes into effect.
