Department of Internal Trade Inspects Fresh Markets: Pork and Eggs Still at Reasonable Prices

Bangkok: The Department of Internal Trade inspected Ying Charoen Fresh Market and stated that the products were in sufficient quantity and at reasonable prices: pork at 160 baht/kg, size 3 eggs at 3 baht each, and limes at 4 baht each. Mr. Witthayakorn Maneenet, Director-General of the Department of Internal Trade, visited Ying Charoen Fresh Market, Saphan Mai, Bangkok. He revealed that in accordance with the policy of Mr. Pichai Naripthaphan, Minister of Commerce, to reduce expenses and alleviate the hardship of the people, he has ordered the Department of Internal Trade to urgently monitor the situation and take care of the cost of living. The department has therefore come to closely monitor the price situation of essential consumer goods, especially pork and chicken eggs, in Ying Charoen Fresh Market. It was found that the situation of the goods is sufficient to meet the demand and the price is appropriate according to the market mechanism. The market price of red pork is 160 baht per kilogram, size 3 chic ken eggs are 3 baht per egg, and limes are 4 baht per leaf. As for various fresh vegetables, there is a downward trend, which is considered normal.

According to Thai News Agency, the Department of Internal Trade has coordinated with the Department of Livestock Development to inspect the production sources, including pig farmers, to quickly increase the amount of products entering the market, which is expected to remain at the same level until the end of this month.

In addition, the Department of Internal Trade has received good cooperation from market owners in supervising the display of product prices clearly, checking the accuracy of scales, and preparing to install 'central scales' to facilitate consumers, prevent being taken advantage of in trading, and create fairness for the people.

Mr. Witthayakorn added that the Department of Internal Trade has collaborated with partners such as communities, modern trade department stores, and fresh market associations to supervise and control prices at retail locations. They have deployed mobile Blue Flag vehicles to sell consumer goods, especially fresh food such as pork at a special price of only 140 baht per kilogram (red pork), and palm oil at 50 baht per bottle at 30 locations throughout Bangkok to help reduce the cost of living for the people. In terms of the retail store situation, they have received cooperation from the stores to fix the price of pork to be appropriate for the situation by selling it at 150 baht per kilogram for the red meat category.

In this regard, if the public finds any wrongdoing or has any complaints about the prices of products, they can report it to the hotline 1569 or view more information on the website www.dit.go.th. They can also follow news about the Blue Flag project from the aforementioned channels.
