Department of Internal Trade Takes Measures to Control Pork Prices and Launch Blue Flag Mobile Campaign

Bangkok: The Department of Internal Trade is actively inspecting department stores to regulate pork prices and has launched the Blue Flag Mobile campaign, offering red pork at 140 baht per kilogram until June 30, 2025. The initiative aims to mitigate the cost of living for residents by providing essential goods at reduced prices.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Witthayakorn Maneenet, Director-General of the Department of Internal Trade, assessed consumer goods prices at Blue Flag sales points in the Charoen Chai community, strategically located near the Red Line (Chatuchak Station). The campaign features discounts of up to 60% on over 100 items across various communities in Bangkok, with a daily target of 30 sales points.

Mr. Maneenet also visited the Big C Saphan Khwai branch to evaluate the pork sales situation. The Department of Internal Trade, under the directive of the Minister of Commerce, Mr. Pichai Naripthaphan, is tasked with closely monitoring prices, especially for pork and palm oil. Due to hot weather affecting pork production, prices have risen. In response, Big C has offered promotions, reducing pork prices from 162 to 155 baht per kilogram and other reductions on pork ribs and loin. Additionally, palm oil and rice prices have been slashed to support consumers.

This move follows discussions with wholesalers and retailers to stabilize prices nationwide until April 30, 2025. Retailers seeking price increases must submit cost details for Department review before any adjustments.

In the Charoenchai Community, the mobile Blue Flag initiative provides essential goods at competitive prices, including pork at 140 baht per kilogram and other staples like eggs, sugar, and palm oil at reduced rates. The Department's efforts aim to meet the needs of densely populated areas seeking affordable market alternatives.

Furthermore, the Department is organizing the 'Blue Flag Economical Price, Smart Buy, Economical Use' campaign nationwide. Upcoming events are scheduled for April 28-29 in Nakhon Phanom Province and other regions. For more information, visit www.dit.go.th.
