Bangkok, July 31 – EA joins hands with two giant Chinese partners. Study to set up a 6 gigawatt lithium-ion battery factory in Thailand within the year 2025, hoping that the government will have measures to support it continuously.
Mr. Amorn Sapthaweekul, Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Energy Absolute Public Company Limited or EA, revealed that the company has signed a memorandum of understanding with two giant partners in China, namely EVE Energy Co., Ltd., a technology provider. China's No. 3 Lithium-ion Battery and Sunwoda Mobility Energy Technology Co., Ltd., No. 5 Lithium-ion Battery Manufacturer in China and No. 9 in the Global Market, to jointly study and establish a battery factory. Capacity starts at 6 gigawatt hours per year (GWh) in Thailand.
“Currently, the company is in discussion with the two partners. which may decide to choose only one partner or may have the possibility to jointly invest with both Which will have to wait for the results of the study first, it is expected that FID within the fourth quarter of this year, when the battery factory is established, will be used to establish an advanced battery cell factory at a competitive cost in the future, ”said Mr. Amorn.
This project supports the 30@30 policy. The policy to promote investment in the production of batteries for electric vehicles from the government will be an important factor that helps make this project feasible. And build confidence in the investors, so the government should have measures to accelerate and push this policy out. To help promote Thailand as a manufacturing hub for lithium-ion batteries and become a leader in the electric vehicle industry in ASEAN in the future.
At present, EA is in the process of expanding the battery capacity of the factory in Chachoengsao Province from 1 gigawatt hour to 4 gigawatt hour. by adding production lines in the original factory An investment of about 6,000 million baht is expected.
