Immediate Assistance for Workers and Entrepreneurs Affected by COVID-19

The Cabinet on 29 June 2021 approved assistance measures to ease impacts of COVID-19 for employees and employers in six provinces, following the recent announcement on Regulation No. 25, which involves restrictions implemented temporarily in high-risk areas.

The six provinces include Bangkok, Nakhon Pathom, Nonthaburi, Pathum Thani, Samut Prakan, and Samut Sakhon. Both affected workers and entrepreneurs who are covered and not covered by the social security system will benefit from the immediate assistance for a period of one month.

Employees under Section 33 of the Social Security Act will receive 2,000 baht each in compensation. They will also receive half of their daily wages, but not exceeding 7,500 baht. Their employers will receive 3,000 baht for each of their workers, but for not more than 200 persons.

Employers who are not covered by the social security system will have to register with the Social Security Office before the end of July 2021, so that they will receive 3,000 baht for each of their employees, but for not more than 200 persons. Their workers who have Thai nationality will also receive 2,000 baht per person in compensation.

As for entrepreneurs with no employees, they may register through the application “Tung Ngern” within July 2021, so that they will receive 3,000 baht in compensation.

In the initial stage, it is expected that a fund of 8.5 billion baht will be set aside to offer the immediate assistance to these affected people.
