Military units rush to help people from flash floods in Mae Sai, Chiang Rai Province, and closely monitor the flood situation in the northern region.
Lt. Col. Richa Suksuwanon, deputy army spokesman, revealed that the continuous heavy rain since September 9, 2014 in the northern region of Thailand resulted in flash floods that suddenly flooded houses in 2 districts of Chiang Rai Province: Mae Sai and Chiang Khong, especially in Tambon Wiang Pang Kham and Tambon Mae Sai, where the mass of water flooded Sai Lom Joy Market, Mae Sai Community, Hua Fai Community, Mueang Daeng Community, Mai Lung Khan Community, and Koh Sai Community, causing people to suffer and be trapped in their homes, unable to evacuate or move their belongings immediately.
The Royal Thai Army, through the Royal Thai Army Disaster Relief Center, as an operational unit supporting government agencies when disasters or emergencies occur in accordance with the National Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Plan 2021-2027, has assigned the 37th Mil
itary Circle Disaster Relief Center, together with government agencies, the administrative sector, rescue workers, and the public sector, to monitor the situation and provide assistance to people in the area.
Since the flood, personnel from the 3rd Infantry Battalion, 17th Infantry Regiment, and 37th Military Circle, as well as personnel from the Chao Phraya Taksin Special Forces Unit, have been deployed to help people.
Pha Muang Task Force brought in Army equipment such as high-altitude transport vehicles (FTS) and flat-bottomed boats to the area to evacuate people and move important items to a safe area. Meanwhile, the Disaster Relief Center of the 37th Army Region brought in the Army’s field kitchen to set up a kitchen to help people affected by the flood in the temporary shelter area that the province had prepared at the Tha Sai Municipality, Mae Sai District, Chiang Rai Province, and to help take care of the 4 essentials and prepare food for the victims.
