TFA president says he better quits if he cannot do anything with the Thai soccer team

Thai Football Association president Pol Gen Somyos Poompunmuang admitted Thursday he felt ashamed with Thai national soccer team’s recent humiliating losses to Saudi Arabia and Japan teams and he could not let this desperate situation to go on for the next three years.

Touching on the future of the coach of the national soccer team, Kiatisak Senamuang, the former police chief said that, of all the Thai soccer coaches, he admired Kiatisak as being disciplined and capable of reining in his players to be disciplined.

But there are other factors that we have to take into consideration. We have to look forward. I want to see the Thai national team to be on the front of the teams in Asia. The question about whether there will be a change (of the coach) or not, I would like to know how the other people think whether they think like me.

If they say it is just fine to remain that way to be the Suzuki and Sea Games champions. And it is just fine to lose 3-4 goals in the Asian league. But for me, I feel ashamed. It is intolerable. I cannot stand these and I can’t afford to do nothing and let the Thai team to go on like this for the next three years of my term in the office.

I better quit if I cannot do anything and let the other people to do the job. Don’t let me just sit idly by and do nothing. I cannot stand it, said Somyos.
