UN to celebrate the world’s Soil Day as a tribute to late King Bhumibol


The United Nations will celebrate the world’s Soil Day at its head office in New York on Tuesday December 5 as a tribute to the late His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej.

The event will be presided over by Mr Virachai Palasai, the Thai permanent secretary to the UN. It will feature a talk on soil conservation, utilization and improvement of soil in Thailand and the late King’s dedication towards soil utilization and improvements.

Thai embassies and consular offices around the world will separately hold exhibitions featuring the late King’s activities and works, especially concerning soil improvement.

In Bangkok, the government will hold an alm-offering to 901 monks at the front yard of Dusit Palace starting at 7 am with Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha presiding over the event to mark the late King’s birthday anniversary which also coincides with the National Father’s Day and National Day.

An exhibition featuring the late King’s works and activities is currently being held at King Rama IX park until December 10.
