Mexico's National Seismology Office posted a message on the X platform, formerly Twitter, saying: The epicenter was in Matias Romero, a senior local government official said. There were no immediate reports of casualties but the quake damaged the highway leading to the Isthmus of Tehuatepec. It is a narrow stretch of Mexican territory that separates the Pacific and Atlantic oceans. Damage was also reported in Oaxaca. A wall at one hospital was cracked and there was a power outage in the area. An earthquake warning also alerted Mexico City. Despite being 500 kilometers away from the epicenter, dozens of people were forced to evacuate their homes.
